FULL BIO
TEOA (The End of America) is James Downes, Trevor Leonard, and Brendon Thomas, three best friends who met on the road, found a musical kinship, and built a band around harmony, honesty, and connection. Based around Philadelphia, their sound weaves three distinct voices into unmistakable vocal chemistry over a foundation of folk, rock, and Americana.
The band’s name comes from Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, a nod to their shared love of travel, adventure, and the search for meaning in the everyday. That spirit runs through everything they do, from their songwriting to their DIY approach to touring and recording.
No Depression called TEOA’s three-part harmony “the best since Crosby, Stills & Nash,” while Songwriting Magazine UK praised their “classic songwriting and tight harmonies... a perfect antidote and an example of what’s possible through collaboration and unity.” Their latest album, Night Is Alive, written and recorded virtually during lockdown, earned No Depression’s Best Alt-Country Album of 2021. The magazine described it as “Appalachian seriousness with a classic rock background, layered like a painter’s strokes on a canvas.”
TEOA’s career has been defined by constant evolution and connection. Their debut, Steep Bay, was recorded on a four-track in a remote Adirondack cabin only reachable by canoe, the spark that started everything. They’ve since released a string of albums and singles, including Light Within and The End of America, producing music that balances rootsy Americana with lush, modern textures.
Known for their powerful live shows and easy chemistry, TEOA was voted Best New Artist at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and won the Emerging Artist Showcase at Falcon Ridge Folk Fest, later returning as the festival’s Most Wanted band. They’ve performed on NPR’s Mountain Stage (broadcast to over 200 public radio stations), at WXPN’s World Café Live, and even caught the attention of David Crosby, who tweeted, “They sound great and they seem to be loving doing it.”
TEOA’s songs have been featured on Spotify’s “Folk Pop,” “Fresh Folk,” “Discover Weekly,” and “Fresh Finds: Rock” playlists, as well as curated by No Depression and American Songwriter. Their music has been spun on leading AAA and Americana stations including WFUV (NYC), WXPN (Philadelphia), WTMD (Baltimore), and WDST (Woodstock).
What sets TEOA apart isn’t just musicianship, it’s the sense of camaraderie that powers everything they do. Their live shows feel more like a living room hangout than a performance, filled with banter, harmonies, and the kind of energy that can only come from true friends making music they love.
The End of America is proof that singing together can still bring people together.
